The Ontario Government can help carry the freight. Export Market Access, an initiative of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce - with support and funding from the Government of Ontario - provides financial support to eligible Ontario-based companies carrying out eligible export development activities.
At a Glance: What You Need to Know Eligible Companies:
- Currently established and operating in Ontario for 2 years
- Have 5 to 500 employees
- Minimum annual sales of $500,000
- Compliance with governmental laws/regulations
Eligible Activities:
1. DIRECT CONTACTS - International trade shows/events, fairs, technical seminars and exhibits as well as incoming/outgoing missions
- Preference will be given to companies with an international marketing / market entry plan

- Examples include translation services and developing promotional materials to broadly market in foreign market(s)

We can help develop the market specific tools and materials necessary to ensure market penetration success. 3. MARKET RESEARCH - Conducting market research for precise international marketing targeting
- Developing market intelligence: Market size, trends, segmentation, buying attitudes, regulatory requirements, product requirements, distribution channels and competitor activities, strategy and performance
Canada Export Centre has conducted over 300 directed in-market studies on behalf of Canadian clients - the results have been over $60 million in new international trade contracts in 2008. 4. FOREIGN BIDDING PROJECTS - Bidding on foreign projects against foreign competition by professional service organizations (engineering, architecture, consulting ,construction, etc.)
- Pre-feasibility studies and proposal preparation for the supply of Ontario goods/services
Canada Export Centre's highly trained teams of professionals can help with in-market communication and negotiation at high levels. Application and Funding - Up to two applications per year – only one at a time
- Up to 50% of eligible expenses to a maximum of $15,000 contribution per application (on occasion up to $17,500 per application)
Financial statements, insurance and other support will be needed
