Overview
Developed to promote, support and match Canada's exporters to buyers from around the globe, the Canada Export Centre works with the Canadian government, various trade and industry associations and foreign consulates in Canada to capitalize on all the inbound trade delegations and business people who come here looking for trade opportunities.
The cornerstone of the Canada Export Centre is Canada's only year-round Export Exhibition Hall which acts like a permanent export trade show.
Located in Vancouver's downtown business and hotel district at 602 West Hastings Street, within two blocks of the World Trade Centre and the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Canada Export Centre is a permanent, high-profile export sales and exhibition facility.
With more than 17,000 sq/ft showcasing hundreds of Canadian products and services and actively building connections, relationships and sales for Canadian companies, this facility is Canada's premiere physical destination for international trade professionals. Board of Advisors and Corporate Officers
John Treleaven, Chairman of the Board of Advisors
Mr. Treleaven began his career in the Trade Commissioner Service in 1968. The next 32 years saw him serve in Sao Paulo, San Juan, London, San Jose, Costa Rica, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Manila, and in Ottawa in various capacities, including Director General of International Trade Canada.
In August 2000 he left the Service to join the Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership (STEP) as President and CEO, based in Regina. Mr. Treleaven held this position until November 2005 when he established The Treleaven Consulting Group Ltd., based in Sidney British Columbia, delivering international business solutions to a range of clients across the country and abroad.
Ken Dinnadge, Advisor and Middle East Representative
An astute Business Manager with a wealth of experience in international shipping, freight, and logistics achieved through working with International global companies. Responsible for the establishment of various sales & product development in businesses in conjunction with a proven track record in Strategic and Business Management.
His strategic focus, commercial ability and people management skills make him a key force in driving a business forward in various global markets with particular expertise and contacts in the Middle East region. He is also well versed with Canada best business practices and has been actively promoting Canadian products and companies in the Middle East for the past several years delivering some excellent results.
Ken is now working closely with CEC to create brand awareness for Canadian products and services via GSA's regional office in Dubai, UAE, which represents The Canada Export Centre in the Middle East region
Scott Shepherd, Advisor
Mr. Shepherd is the founder and President and CEO of Northstar Trade Finance, a company created to support Canadian exporters by offering financing to credit worthy buyers of eligible Canadian goods and services.
After many years of dedication to the development and promotion of international trade between Canada and the world at large, Mr. Shepherd was honoured with the very first Leadership Award presented by the British Columbia Export Awards. He is a highly sought after speaker and advisor in relation to trade and finance.
Robert A. Fairweather, Advisor
Upon graduation from university in 1966, Bob joined the Trade Commissioner Service of the Department of Trade and Commerce and was subsequently posted to Manila, Philippines.
Following an assignment to Puerto Rico from 1969 to 1972, Bob began two years of intensive Japanese language study. He then spent three years at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo. Postings to Ottawa, as head of the Japan Division, and to Seoul, Korea, as Commercial Counsellor, preceded a return to Japan in 1981 as head of the Embassy's Commercial Division.
Three years later he left government service to become the Resident Manager of one of Canada's leading investment firms. In 1991, Bob returned to Vancouver as its Director of Investment Banking. In 1996, he joined a financial advisory firm as its representative for British Columbia. In October 2002, he became President of the International Financial Centre, Vancouver. Bob is active in the community, and has served numerous organizations.
John Powles, Advisor
In 1969 John was recruited to work for the Canadian Pavilion at Expo 70 Osaka, an affiliation that lasted almost twenty years and culminated with his appointment as Deputy Commissioner General for Canada's host pavilion at Expo 86 in Vancouver and subsequently chief operating officer of Canada Harbour Place Corporation, responsible for building Canada Place and the Vancouver Trade and Convention Centre in Vancouver.
His present company, Pacific Bizlinks Trade Consultants Inc., specializes in export preparedness, political economic reporting and executive recruiting. From 1998 - 2003 Powles was president of the Canada-Japan Society of BC. In 2006 John was appointed chair of the Japan Market Advisory Group for the British Columbia government's Asia Pacific Trade Council.
Doug Taylor, Advisor
Doug is the Managing Director of Pacific Business Intelligence Ltd. (PBI). Established in 1983, PBI provides professional consulting services in the core areas of international business development, strategic planning, international marketing and corporate guidance.
Doug holds a B.A. in Economics from Dalhousie University in Canada, an M.Sc. in Public International Law from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland and a Diploma from the Canadian Securities Institute. Doug holds the designation of Certified International Trade Professional, C.I.T.P.
Russell Marks, Advisor
Russell is a consultant and advisor -- specializing in cross-Pacific business, economic and government affairs - to a select group of Canadian and Asian clients. Prior to establishing a private consultancy practice in 2003, Mr. Mark was a Senior Principal for a major international accountancy and financial advisory firm, based in Vancouver. His career in public accounting spanned over 25 years and included client responsibility for major Canadian, Japanese and international businesses in a broad range of industries, and senior-level secondments in Tokyo to the Government of British Columbia and to the Canadian Embassy.
C. William Ross, Advisor
Bill had a successful career spanning over 30 years with Canada' s Federal Government and its Diplomatic Service, in which he specialized in International Trade and government relations. He held senior trade positions in the Departments of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Industry, and Agriculture and Agri-Food, including, in the latter Department, the positions of Director General of the Grain Marketing, and International Markets Bureaus. His assignments abroad included Europe, Latin America, and Australia, three as the head of Commercial Economic Departments in Canadian Embassies, and four as Head of Mission, including three appointments as Consul General and one as Ambassador.
